Comprehensive HIV 4th Generation Antigen/Antibody Testing Services

HIV virus cells

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a top priority in global infectious disease research. During the early stage of HIV infection (the acute phase), the virus replicates rapidly in the host, but the host's immune system has not yet produced sufficient concentrations of antibodies. To address this early "window period," the HIV 4th Generation Assay was developed, becoming the gold standard in biomedical research for evaluating early viral exposure.

The core advantage of the 4th generation assay lies in its ability to simultaneously target two critical biomarkers:

  1. p24 Antigen: A highly conserved HIV viral core protein. Very early after infection, before host antibodies are formed, large amounts of p24 antigen are released into the blood or cell culture supernatant.
  2. HIV-1 & 2 Specific Antibodies: Specific defense proteins (primarily IgG and IgM) produced by the host's immune system in response to an HIV-1 or HIV-2 infection.

By combining antigen capture with antibody detection, the 4th generation assay can capture infection signals significantly earlier than traditional antibody-only tests (3rd generation and older). In experimental animal tracking, in vitro antiviral efficacy evaluations, and high-risk cohort serological investigations, this means not only detecting viral breakthrough earlier but also obtaining a more complete profile of acute-phase immune responses.

Our Services

We leverage advanced immunological and molecular biology platforms to provide life science research teams with high-throughput, high-precision HIV 4th generation joint screening services.

Our Advantages:

  • Drastically Shorten the Research Detection Window: With highly sensitive capture of the p24 antigen, we can identify experimental infection models in the acute phase extremely early, buying precious time for early intervention mechanism studies.
  • Comprehensive Dual-Target Data: A single test simultaneously yields direct evidence of the virus's presence (antigen) and the host's reaction (antibody), constructing a complete early infection kinetic curve.
  • High Specificity & Differentiation: Our optimized analytical platforms not only effectively reduce false-positive rates in complex biological matrices but also accurately differentiate between HIV-1 and HIV-2 subtypes.

Standardized Research Testing Algorithm

To ensure data accuracy and logical rigor for every research sample, we strictly adhere to the internationally recommended three-step testing algorithm:

Utilizing a high-sensitivity platform to simultaneously detect p24 antigen and HIV-1/2 antibodies in the sample.

  • Negative Result: Essentially rules out HIV infection in the experimental subject or sample system; testing concludes.
  • Positive Result: Indicates the presence of viral antigens or antibodies in the sample; proceed to Step 2.
For samples testing positive in the initial screen, a highly specific multiplex antibody differentiation test is performed. This aims to confirm whether the host has produced stable antibodies and clearly distinguishes between HIV-1 and HIV-2 infections.
  • Positive Differentiation: Confirms established infection and the specific subtype.
  • Negative or Indeterminate Differentiation: Strongly suggests the sample may be in the very early acute infection window period (where abundant p24 antigen causes a positive initial screen, but specific antibodies have not yet formed). Proceed immediately to Step 3.

For samples with negative or indeterminate results in Step 2, ultra-sensitive quantitative or qualitative HIV RNA nucleic acid testing is initiated. By directly looking for the virus's genetic material, this step definitively confirms the status of an active acute infection and determines the viral load.
